Where Are They Now? Alumni Highlight: Kate Severson
Let’s catch up with Kate Severson! Kate served with CCMI during the summer of 2012 in the Boundary Waters. Kate now works for Voyageurs National Park as a Program Manager for Interpretation and Education.
What kind of work did you do when you were in the Corps?
Clearing portages during the summer and reopening the burned Powwow Trail in BWCA.
What did you do immediately after your term with the Corps?
Joined another crew in Nevada and then Texas

What kind of work do you do?
I work for the National Park Service.
Were there any particularly memorable or challenging experiences during your time in the Corps?
So many memories and challenges! But my crew lead (Alice Yonke) gave me the encouragement to continue.
What was the most personally meaningful part of your experience with Conservation Corps?
Using a chainsaw for the first time, reading The Hobbit outloud around the campfire, and being the one to carry the canoe on most of the portages!
How did the experience shape your career/life?
I found my lifetime partner and vocation.
How did you use your education award?
I paid off most of my student loans.
What advice would you give to current members?
Stay connected to your crew and trust the skills you gain.
