Youth alumni, volunteers and Corps staff members kicked off the Harriet Island cleanup.

April 12 dawned rainy and chilly, but Corps youth program alumni brought their gloves and good energy to Harriet Island in Saint Paul to clean up the Mississippi riverfront. Summer Youth Corps and Youth Outdoors alumni and a few staff members joined local volunteers and the Saint Paul fire department to pick up trash in the park and along the shore as part of Saint Paul’s annual Citywide Spring Cleanup. The group then convened at Corps headquarters for games, a potluck (that included sushi and stir fry!), slideshows and a Corps history activity led by Youth Advisory Council members Larry Moua and Holly Wilson. During the morning cleanup, alumni contributed 30 hours of volunteer time and removed 240 pounds of debris.
