Eight Northwest District corps members and one staff member prepared to depart for a three-week disaster response deployment in St. Louis.

On February 7, a team of nine headed south to St. Louis to help communities clean up after record flooding ravaged the state during the last week of December. Up to 20 inches of rain fell in some areas, causing flash flooding and water levels that rose above historic levels. Thousands were displaced and at least 24 killed. During their three-week deployment, the team of one staff member and eight corps members will work directly with homeowners to assess and clean up their homes, including the messy work of “mucking and gutting” and mold remediation. They will also work in a call center to follow up with homeowners still needing help and will assist with planning and development of best practices for direct service teams. We wish them well!
