Youth lead volunteers in service projects

Here is a summary of projects designed and implemented by each crew, which carries the name of the Recreation Center where it is based.

Hazel crew: held an online auction to raise funds to build wood duck houses and exceeded their goal by raising enough to build four houses, which they installed at Lake Phalen. Watch the video they created to demonstrate building a wood duck house.
Baker crew: built a welcome sign for Baker Recreation Center that incorporated bird houses and native plantings.
Harrison crew: prepared and packaged food at Dorothy Day Center, and led a public education event at the Hennepin County central library about food quality in low-income areas.
Folwell crew: built raised vegetable garden beds at South End Community Garden and cleaned/weeded the garden.
Phalen crew: hosted volunteer trash pickups at Mounds Park and Lake Como, and posted fact stickers on trash cans to teach about how materials decompose.
West Minnehaha crew: made signs reading “we share one earth, do your part” and posted them around the community while picking up trash at Lake Como, Lake Phalen and Indian Mounds Park.
