Bugging Me

A black and white Illustration of a human face next to a bug.

By DeVonte Roberts, St. Paul Field Crew Leader

the life of a bug

is typically not long

especially around me

and i know that its wrong

they mean us no harm

they’re just like us

they work, they have families

they do what they must

so quick to swat

to “protect” myself

denying a creature

endangering their health

these insects must think

im some type of monster

when really im scared

don’t want to be bothered

perhaps i should wait

and give them a moment

to land on my body

then fly away from it

perhaps this small visit

will not cause me strife

but teach me to value

all forms of life
