Stewardship & Wildland Fire Training (SWiFT) Fellows – The Nature Conservancy in Illinois

The Nature Conservancy’s Southern Illinois Program is hiring two Stewardship & Wildland Fire Training (SWiFT) Fellows. These positions will start mid-October (start date is negotiable) with the opportunity to extend the Fellowship to two full years. These are full-time positions (35+ hours a week) offering $19-$21/hour, based out of our Carterville office. The SWiFT Fellows work as part of our Interagency Habitat and Fuels Crew, with a focus on hands-on experience in the preparation and implementation of prescribed fire, wildfire suppression tactics and techniques, safely operating and maintaining equipment, invasive plant management, forest stand improvement, and other stewardship activities. Experience is complemented by a robust training program consisting of formal and informal training related to Fire and Aviation Management (FAM) and wholistic management practices used in the restoration and preservation of a large, diverse, and unique landscape.
