Where Are They Now? Alumni Highlight: Kayla Head

Let’s talk about transferrable skills. Some come to the Corps to get started in a conservation career. Other’s come for the service aspect. Some are looking for a low stakes career break. Many serve for a combination of reasons. No matter what the reason though, you gain skills that help prepare you for whatever comes next.

Kayla Head served in 2022 on a Duluth Field Crew, doing a lot of invasives species management. How do you think her experience helped prepare her for her current position as a marketing analyst for Cub Foods? Let’s find out…

I worked on a crew that did a lot of invasive species removal and trail maintenance in northern Minnesota.

 

Where are you now?

I currently work as a Marketing Analyst for Cub Foods.

 

What kind of work do you do?

I work in multiple facets of marketing for Cub. I work on our shopper marketing program – which helps vendors advertise their products in store and online at Cub. I also work with our community and sports partners on sponsorship and charity campaigns.

 

Were there any particularly memorable or challenging experiences during your time in the Corps?

We worked to plant over 300 trees in a marsh at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. It was very grueling and hard work, but very worth it for the result.

Making friends with my crew and developing my core beliefs as a person. I feel my communication and emotional intellect grew significantly during my stint with the Conservation Corps.

 

How did the experience shape your career/life?

It helped me grow as a person and become more mature and open with my crew mates which translated to other relationships in my life. It helped teach me about hard work and team work.

 

How did you use your education award?

Towards paying off my student loans.
