Crews work at Wood Lake Nature Center
Conservation Corps crews spent a month working at Wood Lake Nature Center this fall to help improve water quality and restore prairie. Three Central District crews removed invasive buckthorn and hazard trees, and planted 75 trees and shrubs. Regular visitors can now easily see roaming wildlife – not possible when a thick shield of buckthorn had blocked the view. Project funding was provided by a Clean Water Fund Grant and a three-year Conservation Partners Legacy Grant. Crews will return over the next two years to manage buckthorn regrowth.
